Course Overview

What Is Gateway & WiFi Testing?

Gateway/CPE (Customer Premises Equipment) devices — home routers, cable modems, DSL modems, and set-top boxes — are the backbone of every broadband connection. This course trains you to systematically validate every layer of a gateway: hardware bring-up, networking stack (IPv4/IPv6), WiFi radio, security policies, management protocols, and performance under real-world load. Graduates are immediately productive in roles at OEMs (Arris, CommScope, Sagemcom), telecom operators (Comcast, Airtel, BSNL), and WiFi chipset companies (Qualcomm, Broadcom, MediaTek).

Complete WiFi Coverage

From 802.11b legacy to the latest WiFi 6E (802.11ax) — OFDMA, MU-MIMO, 6 GHz band, BSS colouring, and target wake time (TWT) validation.

Security-First Testing

WPA3-SAE, 802.1X/EAP-RADIUS, Protected Management Frames (PMF), WPS vulnerability testing, and firewall rule validation — securing the last-mile device.

Performance Benchmarking

iPerf3 TCP/UDP throughput, RFC 2544 framing, latency & jitter under multi-client stress, MIMO spatial stream validation, and real-world range testing.

01
Gateway Architecture & Networking Fundamentals
Weeks 1–2

Understand the anatomy of a CPE gateway — hardware, software stack, WAN/LAN interfaces — and build fluency with the IP networking layer it rides on.

  • CPE/gateway hardware: SoC, radio chips, flash, RAM, Ethernet switch
  • Linux networking stack on embedded devices: /proc/net, ip, ifconfig
  • WAN modes: DHCP WAN, PPPoE, IPoE, static IP configuration & testing

FAQ

Frequently Asked Questions

Still have questions? Reach out on WhatsApp — we reply within minutes.

Who should join this course?
This course is ideal for: (1) fresh graduates in ECE / CSE / IT looking for a specialised gateway/WiFi QA role; (2) working professionals in networking or embedded system testing wanting to move into CPE/WiFi validation; (3) software testers expanding into the hardware-adjacent networking domain. Basic networking knowledge (IP addresses, TCP/UDP) is sufficient as a prerequisite.
Do I need prior WiFi or hardware experience?
No. Module 1 covers gateway architecture and networking fundamentals from scratch. Module 2 covers WiFi RF basics thoroughly before moving into testing. You only need comfort with a Linux terminal. We take care of everything else.
What hardware will I work on in the lab?
Our lab includes commercial-grade CPE routers (dual-band and tri-band), an ACS (TR-069) server, a FreeRADIUS server for 802.1X testing, iPerf3 test nodes, RF signal meters, and WiFi Analyzer Android devices. You access the lab both in-class and remotely via SSH/VPN post-class.
Is Python knowledge required for the automation module?
Basic Python (data types, loops, functions) is enough. We provide a Python refresher in the first week. Robot Framework keywords are taught from scratch. The focus is on applying automation to gateway test cases — not on writing complex Python from memory.
Is online attendance as effective as classroom?
Yes. Online students attend live instructor-led sessions and connect to the lab hardware remotely via a secured VPN. All Wireshark captures, iPerf3 results, and SSH sessions are performed on real devices — the experience is equivalent to being physically present in the lab.
What salary can I expect after completing this course?
Fresh graduates with Gateway & WiFi Testing skills typically receive ₹4–6 LPA at CPE OEMs and ISP labs. With 1–2 years of experience and Python automation skills, salaries range ₹7–12 LPA. Senior WiFi validation engineers at chipset companies (Qualcomm, Broadcom) earn ₹15–22 LPA.
Can I get placed in RDK-B companies specifically?
Yes. Module 6 covers RDK-B component architecture and test tooling. Spectrum has active placement relationships with RDK-B-focused companies operating out of Chennai. We highlight RDK-B testing skills explicitly in the placement preparation sessions for students who want this career path.
